Workshops

Workshop 1: Paleogene Dinocysts – Taxonomy & Paleoecology DINO13

Henk Brinkhuis1,2, Appy Sluijs2, Peter Bijl1

The Paleogene sedimentary record, reflecting Earth’s transition from Greenhouse to Icehouse states, has become appreciated as analogue of future climates. Increasingly, dinocysts play a key role in the chronostratigraphic and paleoenvironmental analysis of these critical archives.

This DINO13 workshop centers on the current state-of-the-art of taxonomic and paleoecological understanding, based on recent global, largely IODP based materials from the Arctic, Atlantic, Tethyan and Southern oceans. Discussions will be stimulated by numerous illustrations of taxa and case-histories and will include live-microscopic interactions

Peter K. Bijl

TIMES aims to improve the accuracy of the Geologic Time scale of the past 100 million years using an integrated approach.

As part of the Biostratigraphy Working Group, and in the framework of TIMES, there is an opportunity for the dinocyst biostratigraphic community to embed new biostratigraphic constraints seamlessly in a new integrated stratigraphicf ramework.

In this workshop we will:

•Discuss best practices in biostratigraphy for palynology
•Identify key sites to improve dinocyst biostratigraphy
•Identify collaborations and approaches for funding

All welcome! Looking forward to your input!
