Studierende können bei uns in allen Phasen ihrer Ausbildung betreut werden. Dies geschieht einerseits in den Lehrveranstaltungen und Übungen, andererseits während der Anfertigung von Abschlussarbeiten, bei denen sie in engem Kontakt zu ihren Betreuern und deren Forschungsaktivitäten stehen.

Während des Bachelorstudiums werden die notwendigen Grundlagen zum Verständnis von Klimamodellen erarbeitet und mit einfachen Anwendungen geübt. In der Bachelorarbeit kommen komplexe Rechenprogramme zum Einsatz, um Klimaänderungen zu berechnen und zu beschreiben.

Master
Im Masterstudium werden verschiedene Zustände und Änderungen des Klimasystems beschrieben und durch Verwendung aufwändigerer Methoden analysiert. Während der Masterarbeit werden die im Fachgebiet verwendeten Klimamodelle benutzt, um wisschaftliche Fragestellungen durch numerische Experimente detailliert zu untersuchen.

Für eine Doktorarbeit werden an vorhandenen Klimamodellen Verbesserungen vorgenommen, z.B. durch Einbau zusätzlicher Parameter. Die Auswirkungen werden durch Modellexperimente untersucht und mit Ergebnissen aus Proxydaten verglichen. Mit Aufsätzen in wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften wird dann die eigene Arbeit veröffentlicht.
