Personal and Team Coaching

  • Is something in your life not going quite as smoothly or as you would like it to?
  • Do you have a conflict at work?
  • Are you finding it difficult to meet all the demands and expectations placed on you?
  • Is your team not working well together?

Perhaps coaching can help :-)

As a coach, I accompany you through growth and change processes. In doing so, I act as a kind of sparring partner.

How does coaching work?

Personal (individual) Coaching

To begin with, it is important for me to understand and recognise your concerns. In an initial conversation, we will therefore take a look at your issue. I will introduce you to how I work and what I can offer you. You then decide for yourself whether you would like to continue working with me.

If you choose me as your coach, I will set aside between 90 and 120 minutes for each coaching session. This doesn't mean that you have to use this time (I know the challenges of busy schedules). If you are satisfied after 60 minutes and have resolved your issue, that's fine too.

In our conversations, I use systemic* questions and, if you like, small exercises and visualisations to help you find solutions that suit you and your personal situation. My work focuses on self-reflection and self-competence: I assume that you yourself are the expert on your issue. I support you in seeing things in a new light, thinking outside the box, finding new perspectives, and (re)discovering your resources.

It is very important for you to know that our conversations are absolutely confidential.

*The systemic approach focuses on the interaction between people and their environment, i.e. the ‘system’ in which they operate. This can be the workplace, but also the family or the sports club.

Team Coaching

is a structured process that supports a group of people to identify and improve their collaborative approach in order to achieve shared goals. Unlike individual coaching, which focuses on personal development, team coaching focuses on the team's dynamics, communication, and collective performance.

The process begins with an initial assessment to understand the team's current state (e.g. team culture, clarity of goals and roles, trust, communication, decision-making processes and the well-being of individual team members). During group and individual meetings, I will help you set goals that can be strategic, behavioural or performance-related. The nature and frequency of the meetings will be tailored to your needs.

Possible outcomes of team coaching include:

  • increased trust and collaboration;
  • faster, more effective decision-making;
  • higher team performance and engagement;
  • reduced conflict, or better handling of it.

About me

I have over 20 years of experience in counselling and coaching scientists. I completed a doctorate myself and then worked on various larger projects at different universities. I am also a trained systemic coach, mental health first aider, and LINC personality profiler coach, all with certificates. I regularly attend further training courses in communication psychology and more.

I know your challenges, your working conditions and the limits that are sometimes imposed on your actions from outside. But I also recognise the individual person in you, who brings their own unique issues to the table. I have a genuine interest in you and your concerns, even if they are private issues that make life at work more complex for you.

With respect, empathy and sensitivity and, if appropriate, a pinch of humour, I will help you to find your own individual path. I work in a solution-oriented way, with a positive, forward-looking approach.

Concerns that many coachees have approached me with in the past

  • Conflicts with superiors, employees and/or colleagues
  • Self and time management, burnout prevention
  • Recognising, promoting and contributing your own strengths and skills
  • Leadership coaching / team coaching
  • Gaining clarity about your own career path
  • Reconciling work and private life (the famous "work-life balance" if you like the term)
  • Preparation for "difficult conversations"

These are just examples. People are different and have different concerns and topics :-)

What is the difference between counselling and coaching?

This question is important because I also offer counselling as part of the MARUM Research Academy.

Counselling is the passing on of information. For example, if you have questions about a doctorate, funding for conference trips or offers for postdocs, I am happy to provide you with information. I am then in the role of the expert who shares her knowledge.

Coaching, on the other hand, aims to strengthen your ability to organise yourself and your self-efficacy. As a coach, I am your companion on your path to developing your own solutions and recognising options for action. In this role, I do not give you direct advice, but support you in finding your own path.

You have the feeling that coaching could help you and would like to try it out?

Feel free to talk to me when you see me, or get in touch by phone or e-mail. We can meet in my office at MARUM II or at a location even further away from your workplace. The important thing is that you feel comfortable!

For professors and group leaders, I also offer appointments outside of regular working hours.

Testimonials

"Tina has been incredibly helpful during my PhD. As an international student I often struggled with communication with my supervisor and also the pandemic was a difficult time for me. Tina was always approachable and kind. She is very empathetic and I felt she really understands my struggles. She helped me to develop coping mechanisms and how I can organise myself and stay in contact with my thesis committee. Without Tina, I am quite sure I would have quit my PhD."

“The coaching offers a great opportunity to reflect and find individual ways on how to best deal with the competing demands as a group leader. Building and maintaining a successful team and providing supportive supervision while managing my own time and needs is challenging. In the coaching sessions with Tina, I can think out loud, obtain input and ideas for issues from a different perspective and get support and reassurance to find my own solutions and pathways forward. This has helped me especially during the first years of setting up my own group.”
