The third Ocean Floor Symposium will focus on the topic of “Organic matter transportation, transformation, and preservation: From the ocean surface to the ocean floor” Experts will meet from September 8 to 11, 2025, at MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences at the University of Bremen.

The symposium will focus on processes at the ocean floor as part of the Cluster of Excellence “Ocean Floor – Earth's Uncharted Interface” based here. The symposium brings together international experts in this field with members of the cluster and provides a platform for the exchange and discussion of scientific results on processes at the ocean floor.

The following topics will be discussed at the symposium over the next three days in plenary lectures and posters:

  • Transformation in the water column: opening the black box of POM and DOM
  • Lateral transport: from the shelf to the deep sea
  • From process to projection: modeling carbon transformation and flows

The focus will be on discussion and professional exchange. The invited participants are renowned national and international specialists and young scientists.
