Journalist Juan David Escorcia began working at MARUM in February. He is a fellow in the FRONTIERS residency program for journalists and will be working at MARUM until May, researching topics for his work in science journalism.

Juan David Escorcia is an environmental journalist based in Barcelona. His journalistic career has involved intense work on climate and environmental topics. He has published several articles on ecological aspects including invasive species in the Mediterranean Sea, and his work received an award from the Earth Journalism Network.

His goal is to make research findings accessible to a non-academic audience, and he is particularly interested in the complex interactions between marine science, the ocean floor, and the Earth system.

One of the topics of his research in Bremen will be the marine carbon cycle, which researchers at MARUM and in the Cluster of Excellence “The Ocean Floor – Earth’s Uncharted Interface” are investigating.

About the FRONTIERS Program
