The seafloor mapping team is available to assist with any questions related to the acquisition and processing of hydroacoustic (multibeam echosounder) and optical seafloor mapping. We can help with tasks such as providing bathymetry grids (e.g., for cruise preparation), training staff or students on how to operate multibeam systems, processing sonar data during research cruises, and supporting the generation of photomosaics and 3D models from existing underwater photos and videos.

Our Seafloor Mapping team specializes in:

  • High-resolution seafloor mapping: Multibeam surveys and post-processing to generate detailed bathymetry and backscatter grids and maps.
  • Water column monitoring: Hydroacoustic water column monitoring (detection of gas bubbles, marine life, etc.).
  • Photomosaics: Construction of high-resolution visual representations of the seafloor from existing underwater photographic or video material (low-overlap 2D photo-mosaicking, 3D photogrammetry).
  • Navigation data processing: Processing and integration of underwater navigation data to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our mapping products.
  • Open-source solutions: contribution to the development of open-source software tools for processing hydroacoustic, optical or navigation data (e.g. MB-System)
