This year's BRIESE Prize for Marine Research goes to two researchers: Tonke Strack from MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences in Bremen, and Isabel Goßmann, during her doctorate at the Oldenburg ICBM – Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment, share the award for their outstanding dissertations.

Strack researched climate-induced changes in marine plankton in the North Atlantic since the last ice age. Goßmann investigated microplastics in marine and atmospheric environmental compartments in Northern Europe. The prize, endowed with 5,000 Euro, is sponsored by the Briese Schiffahrt and scientifically supervised by the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW).
