Forschungsarbeiten
Partikuläres Material im Ozean (Marine Snow), spielt eine zentrale Rolle im globalen Kohlenstoffkreislauf. Es transportiert große Mengen von organisch gebundenem Kohlenstoff aus dem Oberflächenwasser in die Tiefsee und spielt daher als Klimaregulator eine entscheidende Rolle.
Als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter habe ich mich mit Verteilungsmustern, Sinkgeschwindigkeiten und Transportprozessen von Marine Snow vor der NW-Afrikanischen Küste beschäftigt.
Dazu habe ich optische Systeme eingesetzt um in-situ, partikelspezifische Parameter wie Größe, Verteilung und Sinkgeschwindigkeit über die Tiefe zu ermitteln.
Meerestechnik
Von etwa 2005 bis 2014 war ich zudem für den Einsatz des 1000m tief gehenden, ferngesteuerten Tauchroboters MARUM-Cherokee verantwortlich.
Seit 2014 bin ich für das kleine Work-Class ROV MARUM-Squid zuständig, welches bis in eine Tiefe von 2000m eingesetzt werden kann.
