My (previous) research interests
Particulate matter in the ocean (Marine Snow) plays a crucial role in the global carbon cycle. It transports large quantities of organically bound carbon from surface waters to the deep sea and therefore plays a crucial role as a climate regulator.
As a research scientist, I investigated the distribution patterns, settling velocities, and transport processes of marine snow off the northwest coast of Africa.
To this end, I used optical systems to determine particle-specific parameters such as size, distribution, and settling velocity with depth in situ.
My marine technology
From around 2005 to 2014, I was also responsible for the operation of the 1000m depth rated ROV MARUM-Cherokee.
Since 2014, I have been responsible for the small work-class ROV MARUM-Squid, which can be deployed down to a depth of 2000 meters.
