The Knipovich Ridge in the North Atlantic is the destination of an expedition with the research vessel MARIA S. MERIAN, which is being led by MARUM scientist Prof. Gerhard Bohrmann. The focus is on hydrothermal vents, in particular the Jøtul field, which was newly discovered in 2022. Individual dives with diving robot MARUM-QUEST can be followed live on the internet.

The telepresence infrastructure developed for the integration of land-based scientists is the result of a BMBF-funded cooperation between MARUM in Bremen and GEOMAR in Kiel. The broadcasts for this expedition are distributed and made available to researchers and the general public via the hardware and software infrastructure established at MARUM.

The dives can be followed live on MARUM TV (Youtube).
