Mission Atlantic
MISSION ATLANTIC is an EU-funded project that will map and assess the present and future status of Atlantic marine ecosystems under the influence of climate change and exploitation. As part of the project, MARUM develops a deep glider seafloor imaging system. This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No 862428 (MISSION ATLANTIC).
TRIPLE-nanoAUV2
With the development of the nanoAUV, the TRIPLE-Project is breaking new ground in many technical and scientific areas. The biggest challenge in the development is that the nanoAUV should act fully autonomously under an ice shelf. The acronym TRIPLE stands for – Technologies for Rapid Ice Penetration and subglacial Lake Exploration. It takes into account the three different development strands 1) shuttle melting probe, 2) nanoAUV as payload and 3) AstroBioLab that together form the complete TRIPLE system. The TRIPLE project line is funded by the German Space Agency at DLR and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. ElbeXtreme
Understanding extreme marine events and natural hazards in Europe. The aim of mareXtreme is to significantly improve the predictive capacity for extreme marine events and natural hazards, to support the sustainable development of coastal communities and to strengthen the resilience of coastal society.
AIMS3
Alternate scenarios, Innovative technologies, and Monitoring approaches for Sub-Seabed Storage of carbon dioxide. AIMS3 will deliver new insights, monitoring tools and best practice guidelines for CO2 storage at oceanic Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) sites, specifically in crustal rocks (basaltic ocean crust) on the slow-spreading flanks of mid-ocean ridges (MORF) with sedimentary drape where CO2 can be fixated effectively without the risk of a later escape.
TRR
The interdisciplinary project „Energy Transfers in Ocean and Atmosphere“ wants to change this: oceanographers, meteorologists and mathematicians from Hamburg, Bremen, Rostock and Frankfurt work closely together to achieve this goal (see participating institutions). The aim is to develop energetically consistent mathematical models and thus enhance climate analyzes and forecast accuracy.
Manatee
Optical sensing
Deployment of Shifted Excitation Raman Difference Spectroscopy (SERDS) techniques on a marine platform for monitoring vulnerable eco systems in the deep ocean. This project is funded by Werner Siemens-Stiftung.
Completed projects
TRIPLE-Modo
01.11.2020 - 31.05.2023
TRIPLE-Mobile Docking System: AI-based close-range navigation and control for soft-robotic-based docking systems. The TRIPLE-MoDo project belongs to the TRIPLE project-line of DLR RM and contributes to the development of a land mission on the Jupiter’s moon Europa with the goal to find any extraterrestrial life form of the past or present. The TRIPLE project line is funded by the German Space Agency at DLR and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
TRIPLE-nanoAUV 1
01.09.2020 - 30.06.2023
Localisation and perception of a miniaturized autonomous underwater vehicle for the exploration of subglacial lakes. The aim of the TRIPLE project line is to design and build a system for scientific exploration of subglacial lakes while validating the associated functions in close cooperation with marine and space scientists during an analogue demonstration mission in Antarctica. The TRIPLE project line is funded by the German Space Agency at DLR and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
