Research interests
- Trigger mechanisms and kinematics as submarine landslides
- Slope stability analysis with focus on key role of sediment texture and interplay between micro-structure and pore pressure transients
- Interplay between volcanic activities and subsequent surface material transport processes
- Deformation behaviour and sediment-physical characterization of marine sediments
- Sediment bed stability and initiation of motion - investigation of sediment transport processes at the water-sediment-interface
- Studies on current induced sediment transport in the vicinity of corals and mangrove roots
- Combination of various numerical simulation techniques including granular (Discrete Element Method) and continuums (Finite Element, Finite Difference Method) modelling techniques
- Application and development of academic as well as commercial simulation techniques (e.g., PFC2D/3D, FLAC 2D/3D, OpenFOAM, ANSYS, ComsolMultiphysics)
- Combination of geophysical data and sediment core analyses (e.g. MSCL, CT, micro-CT)
