Glacial-Interglacial Variability of the Western Pacific & Western Indian Ocean
My research focuses on understanding past climate variability in the low-latitude Indian and Pacific Oceans, with a particular interest in how ocean circulation and regional hydroclimate responded to large-scale climate shifts. I apply a range of geochemical proxies, mainly from foraminifera, to reconstruct changes in sea surface temperature, thermocline structure, and precipitation over different timescales.
Currently, I’m working on two key areas. The first is the Mindanao region in the western Pacific, where I investigate the variability of the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) at its source. The second part of my project focuses on the western Indian Ocean off Tanzania, where I aim to reconstruct past sea surface conditions and rainfall variability, particularly in relation to Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) dynamics.
