Doctoral Research Project

Reconstructing the Upwelling Dynamic In Eastern Equatorial Indian Ocean and It´s Relaterd to ENSO and IOD

This project aims to explore the upwelling system along the western coast of Sumatra—an essential process for marine ecosystems and fisheries. Focusing on its connection to major climate drivers like the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), the study analyzes over 30 years of oceanographic data including sea surface temperature, wind, sea level anomalies, and chlorophyll-a.

Using time series analysis and the Ekman Transport method, this research aims to reconstruct historical upwelling patterns, identify climate-driven variability, and develop predictive insights. The outcomes will support better understanding and management of climate impacts on coastal and marine systems in the Indian Ocean region.
