38th International Meeting of Sedimentology in Huelva, Spain from 26 - 28 June 2025
The 38th International Meeting of Sedimentology was in Huelva, Spain on June 26-28, 2025. It was a grand meeting that gathered many sedimentologists and researchers. My attention focused primarily on Hall 1, where sessions addressed Deep Marine Clastics and Contourites.
I mainly stayed in the Hall 1 where the topics of presentation were related to Deep marine clastics and Contourites. On the morning of June 28th, I made an oral presentation in Contourites session, the title was “Contourite distribution on the continental slope off NW Ireland, Rockall Trough (NE Atlantic Ocean): genesis and evolution”. I was glad that some audiences were interested in my presentation and asked me questions. This experience significantly enhanced my proficiency in delivering scientific presentations in English. The meeting afforded valuable opportunities for me to disseminate my research among peers.
On 25 June, I participated in the pre-meeting field excursion: “The Legacy of Mining Pollution in the Iberian Pyrite Belt: Chemical Sedimentary Processes in the Tinto River (SW Spain)”. The field investigation documented rivers exhibiting distinct iron oxide-induced red to dark coloration resulting from mining pollution. The leader brought pH test paper to measure the acidity of the river. Even visually clear, colorless reaches of the river exhibited low pH that was attributed to aluminium contamination.
After meeting, I joined a two-day field trip from east to west to see the geomorphology changes of coastal depositional systems under the interplay between tidal and fluvial processes, including dunes, estuaries, and tidal flats.
Thanks to GLOMAR, IAS and group fundings, I had access to this meeting.
