38th International Meeting of Sedimentology in Huelva, Spain from 26 - 28 June 2025
During the last week of June I participated in the 38th International Meeting of Sedimentology (IAS), held in Huelva, Spain. The IAS conference is one of the famous international meetings for sedimentologists. It is held annual and organized by the International Association of Sedimentologists and is recognized as a major forum for recent developments and advances in sedimentology and related fields, with several hundred participants attending this year from all over the world.
Over three days, the conference offered interdisciplinary and highly diverse scientific programs, covering a wide range of topics including shallow and deep-marine sedimentary systems, contourite drifts, clastic depositional environments, carbonate sedimentation, and novel analytical methods in sediment research.
I had the opportunity to present my project on the last day during the poster sessions focused on sedimentary processes in continental margin settings about the “Migration of the Brazil–Malvinas Confluence and changes in western South Atlantic bottom currents since the Last Glacial Maximum”, we reconstructed shifts in ocean circulation and sediment transport over the past 26,000 years using a multi proxy approach i.e. Combination of grain size data, XRF elemental composition, carbonate and TOC contents, and stable isotopes of oxygen and carbon analyses from a sediment core collected near the present-day Brazil–Malvinas Confluence.
The discussions with other researchers were very valuable and provided constructive feedback that will help me further develop my PhD project. The 38th IAS conference itself was excellently organized, and the setting in Huelva close to the Atlantic coast of southern Spain, created a very pleasant and collegial atmosphere.
I would like to thank GLOMAR for supporting my participation in this conference, which was an important opportunity for scientific exchange and professional growth.
