1st Advanced Course in Deepwater Sedimentary Systems in Granada, Spain from 23 to 28 September 2024

The 1st Advanced Course in Deepwater Sedimentary Systems was held on 23rd-28th September, 2024 in Granada, Spain. The course was full of diversity, the organizer invited lots of experts in different method fields to show the state-of-the-art research on contourites or turbidites. Core and seismic workshop part totally let us be involved, we were randomly separated into groups to identify the lithofacies and development of contourites, channels.

Two social events were definitely amazing. In the reception event, we tasted the special Andalucia snacks and drinks, and enjoyed the Alhambra Palace in the sunset. Then on another day, a night tour in Alhambra Palace immersed ourselves in Arabic style.

The most impressive part was field trips to Tabernas Basin and Caravaca. Before I have never seen the outcrops of turbidities and contourites, thanks to this great course to let me visit and touch these rocks. We went hiking in the mountains and sat on the ground to eat sandwiches together, memorable moments.

The course is quite useful for studying deepwater systems from different aspects comprehensively. I love it, and I love the trip to Spain.

I appreciate that GLOMAR and Sedimentology Group financially supported me to join the course, and I also thank the organizers for waiving my registration fee!
